Sigur Rós - "Takk"

Sigurros-takk

The trouble with this one is, I don't speak or understand Icelandic.  But that is precisely the reason I wanted to add this album here.  While completely foreign in its meaning, the music and lyrics are indescribably beautiful.  The letters themselves are miniature pieces of art.  This cloud is strictly just for the beauty of it all.

If anyone who knows Icelandic could shed some light on what we see here, I would love to know more.  Until then, behold Sigur Rós.

AM - "Future Sons & Daughters"

Am-futuresonsdaughters

I've been meaning to put this one out for a while.  Such a great album, I was curious to see what the cloud would look like.  "Love" has often been considered one of the most popular themes in all of music.  While that is hard to refute, I'm finding that "time" is just as present.  It heals all wounds, defines our lifespan and its passing can really define what is true.  As evidenced here, AM is showing us that time can lead you to confirming certain truths.  There is a point where you just "know" something to be true, for better or worse.  Call it acceptance, I suppose.  Also, I'm glad to see "yeah" show up here. It perfectly complements the positive vibe of the album.  If you've heard the album, you'll know I'm not far off on that last statement.

Though, I'm curious...what do you see here?

Bon Iver - "For Emma, Forever Ago"

Boniver-foremma

The thing I like most about this cloud is the presence of the top four words: "love", "now", "lost", "might".  You feel the sense of urgency in loving now, in the present.  And it reminds you that if you don't seize the day, that love might be lost.  But he offers a shade of hope in the word "might", leaving the door open to uncertainty.  The presence of uncertainty and lack of inevitability puts fate in your hands.

The Flaming Lips - "The Soft Bulletin"

Flaminglips-softbulletin

The artistic madness and brilliance of The Flaming Lips is undeniable.  After hearing this album as many times as I have, I figured it would be a good one to throw on here.  I hadn't thought there was really that much of an overall "love" theme in the lyrics.  Alas, I was wrong.  The album is definitely "heavy" in its instrumentation and messages, so I'm glad to see that surface as a primary term here.  On a side note, I've really enjoyed taking a stroll around the perimeter of this cloud to see the fringe terms that have surfaced.  See for yourself.

Wu-Tang Clan - "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" [Explicit]

Wutang-enterthewu

Upon request, I threw this awesome album on here.  To my surprise a few words did not surface as the most prominent words.  I suppose "like" is a good one here because if you are into hip-hop at all, you like this album.  Anyway, there you go.  What else strikes you about this cloud?  Anyone?

Marvin Gaye - "What's Going On"

Marvingaye-goinon

I had to do this album.  It was such a political statement and commentary for its day.  Even today, you can play it and feel the impact as you ask yourself, "What's going on?"  Marvin was fond of bringing a few fundamental elements into his songs in this period.  There's a serious faith aspect, without it being too in-your-face.  This is very clear in his choice of "lord" and "holy" as consistent terms throughout this album.  These two words coupled with a serious amount of "love" are what made Marvin Gaye great.

Counting Crows - "August & Everything After"

Countingcrows-august

After this one was requested twice today, I figured I should do it.  This album has a spot in my soul form back in the 90s.  I was noticing a lot of "me" and "myself" in this at first glance, but it looks like the one thing the Crows are looking for is "time".  Lots and lots of "time".  Are they afraid it will "get" "away" from them?

Pearl Jam - "Ten"

Pearljam-ten

No doubt the fact we see "alive" and "still" so prominent in this cloud is the song "Alive".  However, if you notice there is a large presence of "mommy" and "time" here.  That jumped out at me and I notice it does exist as a larger theme across several songs.  It's not the most exciting cloud, but it is one of my favorite albums and felt it was worthy.

Beck - "Sea Change"

Beck-seachange

You definitely get the feel of this unique Beck album. It's far from his other efforts and has a lot to do with losing love and themes of irreconcilable relationships. A far cry from his typical stuff, but absolutely beautiful in its peculiarity.

Mumford & Sons - "Sigh No More"

Mumfordsons-sighnomore

Love is such a dominating theme on this album. So many moments of plaintive confessions about loving too much. The dominance of "heart" far exceeds the actual uttering of the word "love", many times depicting the presence or absence of love. A stunning album, to say the least and full of real emotion.
